Finally the Bitcoin hard fork happened in a much better way than it was imagined. The dust seems to have settled for now, but a new curiosity has taken over Bitcoin holders. That is to claim their free Bitcoin Cash and that is exactly we will guide here on how to claim Bitcoin Cash. As mentioned in the title itself, only users holding either private keys or holding Bitcoin in exchanges that support Bitcoin Cash chain will be eligible to receive new coins for free.

If you have your Bitcoin in exchange that supports BCH, then there is nothing you have to do. As all the hard work will be done by exchanges and you will be credited with your Bitcoin Cash by them itself. But if you are holding your Bitcoin in a paper wallet and holding your private keys, then this guide will help you get your coins in less than few minutes. Below is the step-by-step guide and it is highly recommended to follow each and every step carefully:

How to claim Bitcoin Cash with Private keys:

Step #1: First of all create an account on blockchain.info and import your private keys in there to transfer your Bitcoin. Once your Blockchain.info wallet shows you the Bitcoin balance, go to bitaddress.org and create a new wallet along with new private keys.

Step #2: After you have the new wallet address and new private keys, send all the Bitcoins from Blockchain.info wallet to the new wallet address you just created using bitaddress.org

(If you are concerned about your privacy, it is recommended to make different addresses and transfer your coins in small amounts to those addresses).

Step #3: Now your old private key will have zero Bitcoin balance and so there is no risk of losing anything.

Step #4: Now download Electron Cash wallet from Electroncash.org

how to claim bitcoin cashStep #5: Open Electron Cash and it will ask you to create a wallet. Just keep clicking next.

Step #6: After you reach the main software interface, click Wallet > Import > Private Keys

how to claim bitcoin cashStep #7: You will now see BCC/mBCC balance at the bottom, but it might be “Unconfirmed”. Don’t worry, we will get it confirm in few clicks.

Step #8: To get your BCC balance confirmed, click on Tools > Network

Step #9: UNCHECK “Select server automatically” and then click on “Server” tab in the same window.

how to claim Bitcoin CashStep #10: Here you will see a list of servers, RIGHT-CLICK on server with “cascharia.com” at the end and then “Use as Server”

how to claim bitcoin cashStep #11: You can now close the window and return back to main screen. Check at the bottom again and you will see that your BCC balance is confirmed.

Despite of receiving the BCC, it is still unclear how to send them to an exchange and thus, it is advised not to try to send them anywhere. Once the picture is clear, you can send the BCC to exchange address from the same software by click on the “Send” button.

If you have any query related to getting your BCC confirmed, please leave a comment and we shall try our best to get it resolved.

Is it true you have to sync the whole blockchain first before you see your BCC balance?

    • admin

No, Electron Cash wallet will not sync entire blockchain and just fetch the balance from your private keys. Make sure you download from their official site only. Lot of scammers out there with phishing links. Better go to Bitcoincash.org and then go to Electron’s site, to be on a safer side.

    Hi
Great guide, but I only came across it after I had already installed and created a wallet, so the “Import Keys” does not show as an option. Any idea?
    Thank you

    • admin

Go To file and make a new wallet with different name.

  • Tom Hu

I don’t see option to import the private key per your instruction . All I can see are sweep and export

    • admin

In that case, click on File > New/Import > (Wallet Name) > Standard Wallet > Select use Public or private key and click next > enter private keys > Next
Once you have done that, follow the guide to select server address and you’ll be just fine. (hope you have transferred your Bitcoins to other address as mentioned in the guide)

  • When can you send the bcc to an otter bcc adress (Viabtc has one)

    • admin

For now, viaBTC.com is the only option, you can exchange it to BTC and then send to any exchange of your choice.

  • GDDD

I Cant Verify my BCH I’ doing Step #10 and it does not work.

    • admin

Is it showing unconfirmed balance ?

      • Michael

Yes, for me the same – stuck showing Unconfirmed Balance.
And thank you for your efforts putting this instruction together.

        • Michael

Sorry, my bad, was too impatient. In few hours transaction was confirmed, so as the balance.
I didnt have import option in the wallet so I did “Sweep” in “Privat keys” (ref #6)

Thanks once more for the manual. What exchange would you recommend to convert it to BTC?

          • admin

Kraken has started accepting BTC deposite, give that a try. If you have a verified account there. Else, viaBTC has instant verification.

  • AJAY KUMAR AGRAWAL

I have used Android app of electroncash. The balance is confirmed but not verified. It’s showing some error in sending BCC.

On which exchange you are trying to send BCC ?

  • Steve0

Hi There, Please help. I already had a blockchain.info account. I transferred my bitcoin balance to another wallet and then used my private keys with my old blockchain.info account and followed the steps above. I have a balance of 0BCC. Please oh please can someone assist me? I would greatly appreciate this.

    • admin

if you had bitcoin as on 1st August only then you’ll get BCC.

      • Steve0

Thank you so much. I did have Bitcoin in my wallet blockchain.info before the fork. I transferred the bitcoin to a different wallet as suggested above and followed the steps given. After the steps there was a 0 balance for BCC. Is there something that I have done wrong? I really am so grateful for your assistance. Thank you once again. You have an awesome blog.

        • admin

You had to transfer Bitcoin to paper wallet WITH PRIVATE KEYS BEFORE THE FORK. block chain.info does not support Bitcoin Cash and so if you had your Bitcoin’s in there, you’ll not get Bitcoin Cash.

Please answer this question, where were your Bitcoins on 1st August ?

          • Steve0

Thank you so much for your reply. My Bitcoin was in my blockchain.info wallet on 1st August. Blockchain.info do not support Bitcoin Cash, but I was under the impression that if you had your private keys you could claim your Bitcoin Cash. I have seen another blog with reference to this https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2053888.40. It would really suck if I could not get my Bitcoin cash because then blockchain.info would have stolen my Bitcoin Cash. Please could you let me know if this is the case. Once again I truly appreciate your efforts and am forever in your debt. Thank you SteveO

I had a BTC balance on Electrum wallet before and after the swap. Moved my BTC after the swap to a diff address for security reasons. Now cannot use my private keys, every wallet (Electron cash, coinomi, Bitcoin ABC ) says that there are no funds on those keys, but the block explorer confirms that my Bitcoin Cash is there. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks.

  • updog

Had to type server manually, but it worked. Thanks!

  • Panos

    Hi all

My Balance is 0.mBCC despite following all the steps.
My Bitcoins before 1st August: Coinbase
Still before 1st August: Coinbase –> paper wallet (pub/priv keys with me)
today: paper wallet –> bitcoin.info –> bitaddress (new paper wallet) –> Electron Cash
Blockchair.com shows the right amount of BTC, but zero BTCC
    https://blockchair.com/search?q=1P29Xh7EqRSbocuujutNj71Lqmx4MPXdLZ

Can anyone help? Have I done something wrong?
    Thanks in advance

    • admin

did you followed the step where it is said to change the network from automatic to manual ?

      • Panos

        Yes, I choose electroncash.casharia.com.

        • Panos

If this information is of interest, I use the linux client 2.9.2 on a linux mint machine.

          • admin

Can you try the same on a windows machine?

  • Panos

    No Idea?

  • Panos

Just tried in on a windows machine, same effect, no bcc in the wallet. I didn’t mention that there is no import-private keys option in my app, neither win nor linux. So I tried the sweep function without success …

    • admin

in that case, create new wallet and while creating you’ll be given option to import keys, give that one a try.
